Which are the other names after Nisarga?
‘Nisarga’ means nature in several Indian languages. This also happens to be the name of the first cyclone from a list of 169 names prepared by the WMO/ESCAP panel on tropical cyclones (PTC). The 13-member panel has come out with a list of 169 names for tropical cyclones over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Each of the 13 members of PTC has contributed 13 names each to the list. The name ‘Nisarga’ was given by Bangladesh. The second name in the list will be ‘Gati’. This name has been contributed by India. The third in the list will be ‘Nivar’. Iran has contributed this name to the list. Burevi, Tauktae, Yaas, Gulab, Shaheen, Jawad, Asani, Sitrang, Mandous and Mocha will be the other names in the first list of 13 names for cyclones over Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. It was proposed to prepare the new list of names of tropical cyclones in the 45th PTC session at Muscat during September 2018.
